The Amyloidosis Research and Treatment Centre, Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo is a national tertiary referral centre for systemic amyloidoses and for autoinflammatory diseases in adult patients. It is the coordinating centre of the Italian Amyloidosis Study Group, including more than 60 clinical institutions. It is also an internationally recognized leading reference centre. All types of systemic amyloidoses can be diagnosed and treated. Diagnosis is established using the most advanced techniques, including immune-electron microscopy, MS‐based proteomics and gene sequencing. The Centre receives blood and tissue samples from other institutions. The Centre substantially contributed to recent advancements in the field, elucidating disease mechanisms, establishing innovative diagnostic tools and developing novel treatments.

Since 2000, the Centre has established a genetic facility for the diagnosis of hereditary autoinflammatory diseases (AID) and has implemented a highly specialized clinic where patients are followed in a multidisciplinary approach, including genetic counselling. This activity led to the definition of mutation spectrum and phenotype of several forms. The Centre provides a comprehensive diagnostic work-‐up according to current guidelines, up-‐to-‐date treatments and actively participates in clinical studies.

In the past years diagnosis and care of paediatric patients with autoinflammatory diseases has also substantially increased at the Dept. of Paediatrics, allowing a more integrated approach to families affected by these disorders.

The Rheumatology Unit is a highly specialized centre for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of rare rheumatic conditions. It has a well-‐established integrated and multidisciplinary team of care for rare rheumatic diseases.
