Erasmus University Medical Center – Paediatric unit

The Erasmus MC-Sophia Children’s Hospital is the oldest and largest children’s hospital in the Netherlands. All pediatric subspecialties are represented, and clinical care includes state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic options. The Sophia Children’s Hospital is a regional and national reference centre for children with primary immunodeficiencies and autoinflammatory diseases and the clinical staff is consulted on a daily basis by pediatricians from other hospitals nationwide on pediatric cases. Immunological diagnostics are performed within the centre and patients are inrolled in national and international research protocols if applicable. Collaboration between specialists in immunology, pediatric rheumatology and hematology, clinical genetics and laboratory specialists is ensured in regular immunology meetings. We have a close collaboration with our colleagues from Pediatric Immunology from Leiden University Medical Center on patients who need allogeneic stem cell transplantation as a part of their treatment.

Erasmus MC as a health care provider (HCP) is acknowledged by the Dutch Government and Minister of Health as a centre of expertise for PID, rare AID, AIE and auto-immune diseases. The HCP is recognized as an Academic Centre of Excellence in the Erasmus MC.

Internationally the PID center is acknowledged by the Jeffrey Modell Foundation as a centre of excellence for PID. The HCP is nationally assessed by the IGZ (Inspectie voor de Gezondheidszorg, Health Care Inspectorate, established by the Ministry of Health, Welbeing and Sports) and NIAZ (Nederlands Instituut voor Accreditatie van Ziekenhuizen, Dutch Institute for Accreditation of Hospitals). The HCP has implemented a nationally accredited Safety Management System (VMS, Veiligheidsmanagementsysteem).
