The Department of Rheumatology and clinical Immunology together with the Department of Hematology/Oncology and Pneumology at the UKM are dedicated to rheumatic and immunologic diseases. UKM has established a multidisciplinary team with regular conferences, rounds and audits; Policies and procedures for patient management are established, including the assessment of outcome and complications.

The clinical service is geared towards caring for patients with autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, and immunodeficiencies. Patients are mostly referred from a large area in Northwestern Germany. Senior staff physicians take care for patients in the outpatient clinics, consult services are available. Inpatients are treated in collaboration with other departments. Furthermore, the UKM is a tertiary referral center offering a broad range of clinical and diagnostic services, including radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory medicine, microbiology, pathology and other medical and surgical subspecialties. Therefore, the Department is able to provide medical care even for the most complex patients.
